About The Role

We are seeking an experienced Provisioning Engineer – Subsea Optical Services to support the planning, provisioning, and lifecycle management of lit services delivered over dedicated subsea fibre pairs.

This role focuses on high‑capacity lit wavelength and spectrum‑based services, delivered across Ciena optical transmission platforms. You will be responsible for end‑to‑end service delivery, from design collaboration and spectrum planning through provisioning, testing, handover, and operational readiness.

The environment is technically demanding and change‑sensitive, requiring strong engineering discipline, excellent cross‑team collaboration, and a deep understanding of subsea fibre‑pair capacity, spectrum constraints, and service performance.

Key Responsibilities

Optical & Subsea Service Provisioning

  • Plan, provision, modify, and cease lit 10G / 100G / 400G services across dedicated subsea fibre pairs
  • Deliver end‑to‑end service activation for both On‑Net and Off‑Net services across resilient and diverse backhaul routes
  • Provision services across Ciena 6500 platforms, including:
    • WaveLogic 5 / WaveLogic 6
    • WaveServer platforms
    • Associated optical shelves, ports, and services
  • Execute service delivery across protected and unprotected architectures, ensuring compliance with design and SLA requirements

Spectrum Services & Fibre Pair Capacity Management

  • Design, provision, and configure Managed and Unmanaged Spectrum services, including:
    • Quarter fibre‑pair increments
    • Half fibre‑pair increments
  • Manage and optimise optical spectrum allocation on subsea fibre pairs to maximise capacity while protecting in‑service channels
  • Support modulation, baud rate, and power‑level changes to improve spectral efficiency
  • Perform capacity management across:
    • Subsea fibre pairs
    • Subsea cable systems
    • Ciena optical transmission networks

Network Design & Cross‑Team Collaboration

  • Work closely with Architecture and Design teams to optimise service routes, optical configurations, and spectrum usage
  • Collaborate with Systems and Tools teams to:
    • Configure alarms and thresholds
    • Set up SNMP traps and monitoring
    • Integrate ticketing and incident workflows to support lit and spectrum services
  • Provide engineering input into new service models, capacity strategies, and network evolution initiatives

Testing, Validation & Service Handover

  • Perform end‑to‑end optical and service testing, including power, OSNR, BER, and path integrity
  • Validate services against defined performance SLAs and delivery timescales
  • Support controlled migrations, upgrades, and service re‑grades within agreed maintenance windows
  • Deliver high‑quality service handover to customers and operations teams

Documentation, Operations & Enablement

  • Produce and maintain:
    • Engineering Method of Procedures (EMOPs)
    • End‑to‑end design sheets and service charts
    • Handover and support documentation
  • Support onboarding and inventory accuracy for:
    • Ciena racks, shelves, ports, and optics
    • Fibre pairs, spectrum allocations, circuits, and carrier services
    • Cabling, ODFs, power, and cross‑connects
  • Work with Operations and Service teams to:
    • Build and refine support procedures
    • Improve operational readiness for lit and spectrum services
  • Contribute to service and network availability reporting across Ciena platforms

Training & Knowledge Transfer

  • Support the development of training materials, procedures, and documentation for NOC and Operations teams
  • Act as an escalation and subject‑matter expert for complex provisioning and spectrum‑related issues
