About The Role

The L2 Field Engineer leads field-based deployment and maintenance activities, applying advanced technical knowledge to resolve complex issues, coordinate tasks, and support junior engineers. The role ensures high-quality service delivery through proactive fault management, technical leadership, and adherence to engineering best practices. By combining hands-on execution with mentoring, the L2 Field Engineer enhances team capability and drives continuous improvement in technical performance.

The role is primarily home-based and reactive, with flexibility required to work across changing environments and locations. OOH on-call cover is also required as part of an agreed rota.

What You'll Do

  • Provide first-line maintenance, installation and commissioning support across Indigo's customer base, working across both project and maintenance environments.
  • Respond to interventions and assigned faults in a timely manner, taking ownership through to resolution and ensuring SLAs and KPIs are met.
  • Carry out fault finding and diagnosis of complex technical issues, following instructions from Indigo or customer NOCs and using appropriate test equipment and procedures, including OTDR, Ethernet and OSA testing.
  • Install and commission telecoms infrastructure including rack and stack, fibre and copper cabling, cable termination, labelling, testing and AC/DC connectivity in line with required standards.
  • Complete testing and measurement of cable and fibre runs and support network commissioning across complex technologies and environments.
  • Provide technical leadership and direction to engineers through field supervision, hands-on coaching, workshops and mentoring.
  • Lead designated projects as the Lead Engineer, acting as the technical escalation point, coordinating field activities and supporting Project Managers where required.
  • Define, implement and audit field installation quality standards, managing rectification and continuous improvement activities.
  • Manage Risk Assessment Method Statement documentation and, where required, perform, manage and record HSE and SVSA inspections.
  • Provide regular updates to key stakeholders on intervention progress, site issues and team performance, escalating concerns as required.
  • Produce accurate project documentation and complete all required paperwork within agreed SLAs.
  • Support Service Partner programmes and provide KPI-based performance feedback on deployment teams.
  • Maintain excellent working relationships with customers, colleagues and partners while always representing Indigo professionally.
  • Comply with company and local standards, procedures and protocols, maintaining high standards of Health & Safety, engineering quality and professional conduct.
  • Demonstrate flexibility to meet changing business requirements and undertake other duties as required.
