About The Role

12 month contract 

 

About the Role:

Day to day supervision of construction teams who are responsible for delivering projects efficiently and within budget. The Team are responsible for enabling the provision and operational support of our clients products to our residential and business customers.

Specific Tasks and Duties

  • To build and maintain cost effectively duct and fibre cabling network for enabling the provision of Telecommunications and FttH services to both residential and Business customers.
  • Monitor progress and cost of build against programme and forecast.
  • Ensure relevant specifications are being met by contractors.
  • Supervise the daily activities of civils contractors.
  • Verify contractor invoices / build claims /measure sheets.
  • Respond to construction issues raised by other internal departments.
  • Ensure that all Health & Safety standards are being adhered to.
  • Ensure the network build is in accordance with QA specifications.
  • Meet all statutory obligations in relation to co-ordinating works with external bodies.
  • Minimise construction impact on customers.
  • Responsible for various Access build activities including Upgrade, B2B, FttH, Spectrum Expansion, Segmentation, Diversionary Works, National/Metro fibre build for core network.
  • Ensure contractors are carrying out works in accordance with all specifications, SOW, Health & Safety codes, responsibilities, and quality standards including Traffic Management Setup.
  • Monitor and control daily build activities and costs.
  • Identify opportunities and implement plans to increase quality and productivity within the Department.
  • Complete build measurement pro forma.
  • Provide recommendations for remedial works required to network.
  • Liaise with internal and external departments and bodies.
  • Be a point of contact for and resolve designated construction issues.
  • Maintain and proactively protect our duct and cable infrastructure and assist the plant protection officer as required.
  • Plan small work items (e.g. small diversionary works projects etc.)
  • Test duct infrastructure and reinstatement.
  • Monitor and respond to construction defects highlighted by relevant Local Authority.
  • Research solutions to improve infrastructure resilience.
  • Guide Contractors on safe digging practice to reduce utility strikes and claims.
  • Complete Health and Safety checks /audits.

About You

Skills & Expertise:

Essential

  • Extensive technical knowledge and experience of building underground networks
  • A good knowledge of civils practices for road openings, repair, and re-instatement with a good knowledge of the ‘Purple Book’ requirements
  • Knowledge of GIS/Smallworld
  • Four years relevant experience.

    Desirable

  • ‘Purple Book’ accreditation
  • SLG accreditation
  • IT Literate – knowledge of using Microsoft Applications
  • Full clean driving licence
  • Knowledge of CATV and RF Network design
  • Knowledge of Local Authorities roadworks codes of practice
  • Project planning and coordination skills
